The Magic of Cinema

When you relax into a seat at the cinema, ready to watch a film, it feels like the most magical experience in the whole world. At Rizan Production House, we believe that there is only one thing that tops it: getting to actually create films.

We watch films in awe and can only dream of the talent it takes to create such powerful art. It must take a special type of person to make films. There is something inherently different about Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese or Alfred Hitchcock, right? They were born to direct.

Not quite. There is this false notion that only certain types of people are destined to be filmmakers.

There are a hundred excuses that can be made as to why you will not be a successful filmmaker:

  • Your brain needs to be wired a certain way;
  • It is too difficult;
  • You don’t have the resources;
  • You haven’t got access to a crew;
  • You don’t have enough time; and (the most common one)
  • You don’t have enough money.

All of this couldn’t be further from the truth. We have all had different experiences to each other and therefore we can all create our own unique content. All you need is passion.

We’re Here to Help

But simply holding a camera in your hand and shouting “ACTION!” does not make you a filmmaker. There is a learning curve. You need to learn about the technical aspects (like sound, lighting, post-production etc.), as well as the creative side of filmmaking (e.g. how to structure your story, set design, symbolism etc.).

This is part of the reason why we decided to start this blog. To help filmmakers with the artistic and technical aspects of how to create great films, even when working with a limited budget and crew.

If you haven’t already, we highly recommend you check out my latest E-Book, by clicking on the image below. It provides a full breakdown of everything you need to know in order to create a short film, without a crew, whilst working with next to no money. More details can be found here.

This blog is split into two distinct areas.

Firstly, there is a section dedicated to Independent Filmmaking, where you can learn how to shoot short and feature-length narrative films with limited resources and money.

The Film Blog section also breaks down the techniques and creative decisions used by the greatest current and historical filmmakers to analyse exactly what it is that they have done to create such a magical experience.

Who Are We?

Rizan Production House was started as an independent production company with its core focus on creating narrative films.
